History
Howtocookonaboat.com started from two complementary events.
The first event was a very disappointing meal one evening during an Autumn Racing Series which prompted us to cook on board thereafter using fresh ingredients which would metamorphosise into something hot and tasty when the results reached the table. Our meals onboard would be a fraction of the price we were charged for waiting ages for overcooked, yet stone cold food served with a sneer in a souless restaurant.
The second event was lunch in London - this time hot, tasty and with great service - during a rainy day. Here we had the idea to create a resource for people interested in cooking and eating well on boats. Reasons being:
when we do our RYA Day Skipper, Coastal Skipper and Yachtmaster courses, very little is mentioned about provisioning and how to cook on board
very little is written in the established boating press
we seem to talk about food more than our race tactics or passage planning when we're sailing :-)
shopping for food in new places and eating the results is all part of the experience of the voyage
So join in our journey and enjoy!
